Poulenc’s La voix humaine is a profoundly moving one-act opera that delves into the emotional intricacies of a woman’s desperate telephone conversation with her former lover. It paints a vivid picture of love, loss, and the inherent vulnerability of human beings. Set entirely within the confines of her apartment, this opera masterfully encapsulates a spectrum of emotions, from heartbreak and yearning to anger and ultimate acceptance, as the woman grapples with the last moments of her fractured relationship.
