The plot is based on the eternal theme of the impossible love between two beings that everything opposes: it tells the exotic love of a young native with an inconstant European. But exoticism is not only an ornament serving as a framework for the passion of these colonial "lovers of Verona", it calls for a refined music with bewitching harmonizations. This musical writing creates a poetic atmosphere, all in halftones, a marvelous and strange universe confronted without ever really understanding it by five Englishmen who set off to discover an Indian island which will keep all its mystery

L’intrigue repose sur le thème éternel de l’amour impossible entre deux êtres que tout oppose : elle raconte les amours exotiques d’une jeune indigène avec un Européen inconstant. Mais l’exotisme n’est pas seulement un ornement servant de cadre à la passion de ces « amants de Vérone » coloniaux, il appelle une musique raffinée aux harmonisations envoûtantes. Cette écriture musicale crée une atmosphère poétique, toute en demi-teintes, un univers merveilleux et étrange auquel se confrontent sans jamais le comprendre vraiment cinq Anglais partis à la découverte d’une île indienne qui gardera tout son mystère
