“Everything in the world is a joke”, concludes Falstaff, protagonist of the comic masterpiece by Giuseppe Verdi, the composer's latest tribute to the Shakespearean genius. Vanity, passion, love, jealousy, these are the knots of an intricate mechanism that thrives on an overwhelming theatrical rhythm, entrusted to characters, ideas, suggestions that never stop. In an atmosphere of ferocious jest, which is counterbalanced by the affirmation of the pure love of two young people, the old Falstaff stands out and dominates the scene, he wants to deceive and is deceived; around him characters characterized as real figures of the commedia dell'arte, or rather as the mechanisms of a comic clock that is always about to explode.
