SONNENSCHEIN UND SOMMERNACHT
Seit jeher ist der Katalane Jordi Savall als Gambist, Dirigent und Musikwissenschaftler auf der Suche nach dem authentischen Klang der Zeit. Seine Neugier ist so groß wie das gewaltige Repertoire, das er zusammen mit seinen selbst gegründeten Ensembles durchstreift, egal ob es sich dabei um Musik des Mittelalters handelt oder nun um die spritzigen Klänge von Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy.

Der Komponist muss ein ungemein sonniges Gemüt gehabt haben, seine Musik jedenfalls zeichnet sich aus durch unwiderstehliche Leichtigkeit, Finesse und mühelose Handhabung kompositorischer Ideale. Als junger Mann hatte der gebürtige Hamburger im Rahmen der damals üblichen Bildungsreise Italien besucht und jede Menge Eindrücke mit nach Hause genommen, die er in Form seiner Vierten Sinfonie musikalisch verarbeitete: eine sonnenverwöhnte Partitur, die nicht umsonst zu Mendelssohn Bartholdys beliebtesten Schöpfungen zählt. Voller traumspielhafter nächtlicher Eskapaden ist seine Schauspielmusik zu William Shakespeares „Sommernachtstraum“. Die Ouvertüre verfasste der Komponist bereits im zarten Alter von 17 Jahren.

SUNSHINE AND SUMMER NIGHT
As a viol player, conductor and musicologist, the Catalan Jordi Savall has always been in search of the authentic sound of the time. His curiosity is as great as the enormous repertoire that he roams through together with the ensembles he founded himself, regardless of whether it is about music from the Middle Ages or the sparkling sounds of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy.

The composer must have had an extraordinarily sunny disposition, in any case his music is characterized by irresistible lightness, finesse and effortless handling of compositional ideals. As a young man, the native of Hamburg visited Italy as part of the educational trip that was common at the time and took home a lot of impressions, which he processed musically in the form of his Fourth Symphony: a sun-kissed score that is not one of Mendelssohn Bartholdy's most popular creations for nothing. His incidental music for William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" is full of dreamlike nocturnal escapades. The composer wrote the overture at the tender age of 17.
