His final piece was a comedy-ballet, the genre which first portended modern musical comedy, and which Molière carried to perfection. To celebrate the fourth centenary of the birth of the greatest of our authors, the Compagnie des Malins Plaisirs therefore joins that of the Fan and the Spiritual Concert to exalt the “total” spectacle born under the ardent rays of the Sun King. Le Malade imaginaire is a comedy; it is also, we know less, a formidable carnival, musical and choreographic fantasy.
