A magic juice that makes you fall in love. The farmer Nemorino desperately wants him in order to win over the rich and beautiful Adina completely for himself. When the traveling quack Dulcamara made him an irresistible offer, the young man took it immediately. He doesn't know that the love potion is just a noble Bordeaux. Nemorino spends all of his savings, also because Sergeant Belcore, a dangerous rival, has appeared. To his pain, Adina responds to the soldier's advances, while apparently all she has left for Nemorino is mockery. The rejected person tries the love potion on himself first. And the placebo works: the relaxing effect of the Bordeaux makes it so attractive that Adina announces her immediate wedding to the sergeant, but only to make Nemorino even more jealous. But thanks to a surprising inheritance, everything changes. Suddenly Nemorino is swarmed by a whole series of girls ...

Since its premiere in Milan in 1832, Donizetti's opera "L'elisir d'amore" has been on repertoire all over the world. This is not only due to the successful comic scenes, but above all to the perfectly balanced but never sentimental melody of the bel canto arias. The rapid changes in mood of the protagonists - from "cheering the sky" to "deeply saddened" - the composer sensitively traces without taking away the lightness of the comedy as a whole.
