Ludwig van Beethoven's late work has an enraptured and radical quality that still seems modern. The last three piano sonatas in particular overwhelmed his contemporaries - they were far ahead of their time. When we hear these works today, we experience them differently, filtered through exactly 200 years of music history, during which the works have never lost their relevance and modernity. Beethoven's last piano sonatas have become timeless documents of humanity. Hardly anyone knows how to implement this better than Elisabeth Leonskaja - it is not for nothing that she is often referred to as the »grande dame of the piano«.
