Les Arts Florissants - Monteverdi, Secondo libro de' Madrigali

An ensemble of singers and instrumentalists devoted to Baroque music and faithful to interpretation on period instruments, Les Arts Florissants is one of the most renowned and appreciated ensembles of Baroque music in Europe and in the world. Named after Marc-Antoine Charpentier's musical idyll of the same name, founded in 1979 by French-American harpsichordist and conductor William Christie, the ensemble has played a pioneering role in the exploration of long-forgotten Baroque repertoire, including rediscovery of innumerable treasures conserved in the fonds of the National Library of France. Now that this repertoire is widely performed and appreciated, the ensemble has expanded its programs to include 17th and 18th century European music. The ensemble is directed by William Christie to whom, since 2007,

Les Arts Florissants receives financial support from the Ministry of Culture and Communication, the Vendée department and the Région des Pays de la Loire. Since 2015 the ensemble has been in residence at the Philharmonie in Paris. The Selz foundation, the American Friends of Les Arts Florissants foundation and the Crédit Agricole bank are its main sponsors.

Complesso di cantanti e strumentisti votati alla musica barocca e fedeli all’interpretazione su strumenti d’epoca, Les Arts Florissants è uno dei più rinomati e apprezzati ensemble di musica barocca in Europa e nel mondo. Fondato nel 1979 dal clavicembalista e Direttore franco-statunitense William Christie, l’ensemble, che prende il nome dall’omonimo idillio in musica di Marc-Antoine Charpentier, ha svolto un ruolo pionieristico nell’esplorazione del repertorio barocco a lungo dimenticato, compresa la riscoperta di innumerevoli tesori conservati nei fondi della Biblioteca Nazionale di Francia. Ora che questo repertorio è ampiamente eseguito e apprezzato, l’ensemble ha ampliato i suoi programmi dedicandosi alla musica europea del XVII e XVIII secolo. L’ensemble è diretto da William Christie a cui, dal 2007, si è affiancato il tenore inglese Paul Agnew.
