Chef-dirigent Lorenzo Viotti zet vroege muziek van Schönberg en een laat werk Verdi op de lessenaars. Van Schönberg klinkt het romantische symfonische gedicht Verklärte Nacht, waarna orkest en koor uitpakken met het prachtige Quattro pezzi sacri van Verdi.

Chef-dirigent Lorenzo Viotti leidt het Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest in een van de meest romantische composities ooit geschreven. Nog maar 25 jaar oud was Arnold Schönberg toen hij zijn Verklärte Nacht in Wenen schreef. In die jaren een stad waar de meest uiteenlopende muziekstijlen klonken: van Mahler en Wagner tot Brahms en Johann Strauss. Schönberg nam het allemaal in zich op en componeerdee een uiterst sensueel lijnenspel voor strijkers. Hij liet zich inspireren door het gelijknamige erotische gedicht van Dehmel, dat tijdens dit concert wordt voorgedragen door Gouden Kalf-winnaar Reinout Scholten van Aschat.

Quattro pezzi sacri van Verdi
Verdi was rond de tachtig toen hij zijn Quattro pezzi sacri componeerde. Vier religieuze werken, van het intieme Laudi alla Vergine Maria voor vrouwenkoor tot het theatrale Te Deum voor dubbelkoor en groot orkest, waarin de componist bewijst dat zijn talent veel verder reikt dan opera alleen. Een prachtige gelegenheid voor het vaste orkest van De Nationale opera en een speciaal samengesteld projectkoor, bestaande uit het VU-Kamerkoor, Kamerkoor NEXT en Vocaal Ensemble Musa, om samen in de concertzaal te schitteren.

Chief conductor Lorenzo Viotti leads the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra in one of the most romantic compositions ever written. Arnold Schönberg was only 25 years old when he wrote his Verklärte Nacht in Vienna. In those years a city where the most diverse music styles could be heard: from Mahler and Wagner to Brahms and Johann Strauss. Schönberg took it all in and composed an extremely sensual play of lines for strings. He was inspired by Dehmel's erotic poem of the same name, which will be recited during this concert by Golden Calf winner Reinout Scholten van Aschat.

Verdi was around eighty when he composed his Quattro pezzi sacri . Four religious works, from the intimate Laudi alla Vergine Maria for women's choir to the theatrical Te Deum for double choir and large orchestra, in which the composer proves that his talent extends far beyond opera alone. A wonderful opportunity for the permanent orchestra of De Nationale Opera and a specially composed project choir, consisting of the VU Chamber Choir, Chamber Choir NEXT and Vocal Ensemble Musa, to shine together in the concert hall.
