A modern myth based on the opera by Claudio Monteverdi Musical adaptation and new composition by Michael Wilhelmi Performance in Italian and German with German surtitles World premiere Who else could be the opera's first hero than Orpheus, the ancient mythical singer? The artist, the musician, who overcomes death with his tones, is the incarnate symbol of this art form. For just a moment, he frees his beloved from the underworld before she disappears back into the shadows. And in terms of content, the opera from 1607 already contains everything that has driven music theater since then: death, emotional excess or (bar) measure, the power of love and the power of music. But where is Eurydice? Is she just the shadow in Orpheus' story? What are her wishes and does she even want to come back from the underworld? Claudio Monteverdi wrote his ORFEO in the spirit of the Florentina Camerata, an association of musicians concerned with a musical revival of ancient tragedy. In pursuit of this, the composer Michael Wilhelmi and the director Claudia Meyer translate Monteverdi's music into the present day in their adaptation.
