Tamara Trunova and Azim Karimov are working together for the first time in the new production of Lucrezia / Der Mond. Trunova has been active as an author as well as a director for drama and opera for many years in her Ukrainian homeland and in numerous European countries. Azim Karimov was chief conductor of the Moscow Chamber Orchestra and worked regularly with the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra. He is now engaged as assistant to General Music Director Vladimir Jurowski at the Bavarian State Opera and makes his debut with his own production at the house with Lucrezia / Der Mond.

Gemeinsam mit dem Dirigenten Azim Karimov und den Sänger:innen des Opernstudios macht sich die ukrainische Regisseurin Tamara Trunova im Rahmen der Neuproduktion des Opernstudios der Bayerischen Staatsoper auf die Suche nach den Synergien, Parallelen und Differenzen zweier fulminanter kurzer Opern, die uns an den Kern menschlichen Zusammenlebens und gesellschaftlicher (Un-)ordnung führen. Carl Orffs Der Mond und Ottorino Respighis Lucrezia wirken auf textlicher und musikalischer Ebene zunächst recht unterschiedlich. Der Mond geht auf ein Märchen der Brüder Grimm zurück, während die Handlung von Respighis Oper auf einer römischen Überlieferung und mehreren literarischen Bearbeitungen dieses Stoffes basiert. Gleichwohl gibt es durchaus thematische und dramaturgische Ähnlichkeiten bei den beiden, fast gleichzeitig in den 1930er Jahren entstandenen Stücken. In beiden Werken präsentieren uns nicht an der Handlung beteiligte Figuren das Geschehen: In Der Mond ist es ein Erzähler, in Lucrezia La Voce, eine Stimme aus dem Orchestergraben, die von einer Welt in Aufruhr und dem Versuch einer Wiederherstellung von Ordnung beziehungsweise Neuordnung der Verhältnisse berichten. In Orffs „kleinem Welttheater“ wird der Mond gestohlen und gelangt in die Unterwelt. Erst durchs Petrus‘ Eingreifen kommt er zurück an den Himmel und kann von hier erneut für alle strahlen. In Respighis Einakter wiederum befinden wir uns im antiken Rom in einer Zeit von Dekadenz und Tyrannei durch die etruskische Familie der Tarquinier. Lucretia, die Frau des Feldherrn Collatinus, berühmt für ihre Schönheit und Tugendhaftigkeit, wird vom Tyrannensohn Sextus Tarquinius vergewaltigt und begeht daraufhin Selbstmord. Brutus, ein Freund ihres Mannes, rächt sie, befreit Rom aus der Tyrannei, Rom wird zur Republik. Der Weg für eine bessere Zukunft scheint frei ...

Together with the conductor Ustina Dubitsky and the singers of the Opera Studio, the Ukrainian director Tamara Trunova sets out in the context of the new production of the Opera Studio of the Bayerische Staatsoper to search for the synergies, parallels and differences of two brilliant short operas that take us to the core of human coexistence and social (dis)order. Carl Orff's Der Mond and Ottorino Respighi's Lucrezia initially seem quite different on a textual and musical level. Der Mond is based on a fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm, while the plot of Respighi's opera is based on a Roman tradition and several literary adaptations of this material. Nevertheless, there are certainly thematic and dramaturgical similarities in the two pieces, which were written almost simultaneously in the 1930s. In both works, characters not involved in the plot present us with the events: In Der Mond it is a narrator, in Lucrezia La Voce, a voice from the orchestra pit, who tell of a world in turmoil and the attempt to restore order and reorder conditions, respectively. In Orff's "little world theater" the moon is stolen and ends up in the underworld. It is only through Peter's intervention that it returns to the heavens, and from here it can once again shine for all. In Respighi's one-act opera, we find ourselves in ancient Rome in a time of decadence and tyranny by the Etruscan family of the Tarquinians. Lucretia, the wife of the general Collatinus, famous for her beauty and virtue, is raped by the tyrant's son Sextus Tarquinius and subsequently commits suicide. Brutus, a friend of her husband, avenges her, frees Rome from tyranny, and Rome becomes a republic. The way for a better future seems free ...
