A Bar Notables in Buenos Aires. People meet here to have a coffee or a glass of wine, the music plays the eternal tango, couples find each other and then part. It is a place of memories: of love and passion, joy and sadness, jealousy and strife, life and death. The operator of the bar remembers María de Buenos Aires above all. She came from the slums of the suburbs, tried her luck in the metropolis, ended up in a brothel, became pregnant... A fate in the city of a thousand souls. A destiny that visitors to the bar can empathize with. You are all Maria.

In 1968 Astor Piazzolla composed his only opera as a declaration of love for tango and his hometown. The figure of María gives the tango, which stands for a whole attitude to life and world pain, its own shape. The Tango Nuevo developed by Piazzolla is brilliantly presented in his Operita (= small opera), which is based on the highly symbolic, highly musical poem by the Uruguayan lyricist and tango historian Horacio Ferrer. The floating feeling of the tango, which results from the tension between closeness and distance as well as from melancholy and beauty, becomes the narrative of the story.

The director of the dance company of the Tiroler Landestheater, Enrique Gasa Valga, is predestined to direct and choreograph this operita.

Eine „Bar Notables“ in Buenos Aires. Hier trifft man sich, um einen Kaffee zu trinken oder einen Wein, die Musik spielt den ewigen Tango, Paare finden sich und gehen wieder auseinander. Es ist ein Ort der Erinnerungen: an Liebe und Leidenschaft, Freude und Trauer, Eifersucht und Streit, Leben und Tod. Der Betreiber der Bar erinnert sich vor allem an María de Buenos Aires. Sie kam aus den Armenvierteln der Vorstadt, versuchte ihr Glück in der Metropole, endete im Bordell, wurde schwanger … Ein Schicksal in der Stadt der tausend Seelen. Ein Schicksal, in das sich die Besucherinnen – und Besucher – der Bar hineinfühlen können. Sie alle sind María.

1968 komponierte Astor Piazzolla seine einzige Oper als Liebeserklärung an den Tango und seine Heimatstadt. Durch die Figur der María erhält der Tango, der für ein ganzes Lebensgefühl und den Weltschmerz steht, eine eigene Gestalt. Der von Piazzolla entwickelte Tango Nuevo präsentiert sich glanzvoll in dessen Operita (= kleine Oper), der die symbolreiche, hochmusikalische Dichtung des uruguayischen Lyrikers und Tango-Historikers Horacio Ferrer zugrunde liegt. Das Schwebegefühl des Tangos, das sich aus der Spannung zwischen Nähe und Distanz sowie aus Melancholie und Schönheit ergibt, wird dabei zum Narrativ der Geschichte.

Prädestiniert für Regie und Choreografie dieser Operita ist der Direktor der Tanzcompany des Tiroler Landestheaters Enrique Gasa Valga, der sein Publikum in die betörende Sphäre des Tangos und das schillernde Nachtleben von Buenos Aires entführt.
