Een bijzondere Matthäus
Nergens ter wereld wordt de Matthäus-Passion van Johann Sebastian Bach zo vaak opgevoerd als in Nederland. Het stuk oogstte bij de 1ste uitvoering (vermoedelijk 1727) zo’n lauwe reactie dat Bach het teleurgesteld terzijde legde. 100 jaar later blies Mendelssohn het stof eraf. Tegenwoordig heeft het de status van meesterwerk. De evangelist vertelt Jezus’ verhaal. Net als in een hoorspel komt er van alles voorbij. In deze ingekorte versie geven NBE en Duda Paiva Company hun interpretatie van Bachs religieuze universum.  Er zijn 4 zangers, die tegelijk poppen én mensen zijn - de verteller, de verrader, de maagd en de visionair – en dansers.

NBE waagde zich al eerder succesvol aan bewerkingen van ‘heilige huisjes’. Denk aan Mozarts Requiem, Figaro en Don Giovanni en Mahlers Lied von der Erde. Voor dit ‘heilige der heiligen’ werkt het gezelschap voor de tweede keer samen met Duda Paiva Company dat associatieve voorstellingen maakt met dans en poppen. De Amerikaanse stersopraan Claron McFadden en de Brits-Nederlandse bariton Rick Zwart krijgen onder andere begeleiding van de Turkse en Syrische traditionele blaasinstrumentalisten Sinan Arat op de ney en Ghaeth Almaghoot op de duduk.

A special St Matthew Passion
Nowhere in the world is Johann Sebastian Bach's St Matthew Passion performed so often as in the Netherlands. The piece garnered such a lukewarm response at its first performance (probably 1727) that Bach put it aside in disappointment. 100 years later, Mendelssohn blew the dust off. Today it has the status of a masterpiece. The evangelist tells Jesus' story. Just like in a radio play, everything passes by. In this shortened version, NBE and Duda Paiva Company give their interpretation of Bach's religious universe. There are 4 singers, who are puppets and people at the same time - the narrator, the traitor, the virgin and the visionary - and dancers.

NBE & Duda Paiva Company
NBE has already successfully ventured into adaptations of 'holy houses'. Think of Mozart's Requiem, Figaro and Don Giovanni and Mahler's Lied von der Erde. For this 'holy of holies', the company is collaborating for the second time with Duda Paiva Company, which makes associative performances with dance and puppets. The American star soprano Claron McFadden and the Anglo-Dutch baritone Rick Zwart are accompanied by, among others, the Turkish and Syrian traditional wind instrumentalists Sinan Arat on the ney and Ghaeth Almaghoot on the duduk.
