A spectacular work, Messiah is without doubt the most frequently performed oratorio in the history of sacred music. The libretto is in stark contrast to the composer's other works of this genre. Instead of a majestic dramatic narrative, the text of Messiah focuses primarily on the theme of prophecy and meditation. Beyond its famous 'Hallelujah', Messiah illustrates, throughout its three parts, the full splendour of Handel's symphonic and choral writing.
