Judea, around 2022 years ago: Brian was born in the stable next to that of Mary and Joseph. 33 years later, he has more important things to do than join a folk hero named Jesus Christ. Naively, he begins a career as an underground fighter against the Romans until, by a stupid coincidence, he is mistaken for the Messiah. He promptly ends up in front of Pontius Pilate, is condemned as a rebel and still has to listen to himself hanging on the cross: »Always Look on the Bright Side of Life«!

With lots of music from country to pop to Broadway, Eric Idle and John Du Prez have transformed the cult film from 1979 into a »comical oratorio« for the live stage - very much in the style of a Handel-Messiah parody for opera soloists, choir and symphony orchestra. Of course, neither the "People's Front of Judea", a speech-impaired Pontius Pilate nor dictums like "each one cross!" and "Follow the sandal!" Look forward to a German-language premiere that once again fits perfectly into Gärtnerplatz!

Judäa, vor ca. 2022 Jahren: Im Stall neben dem von Maria und Josef kommt Brian zur Welt. 33 Jahre später hat er Wichtigeres zu tun, als sich einem Volkshelden namens Jesus Christus anzuschließen. Naiv beginnt er eine Karriere als Untergrundkämpfer gegen die Römer, bis er durch einen dummen Zufall für den Messias gehalten wird. Prompt landet er vor Pontius Pilatus, wird als Aufrührer verurteilt und muss sich noch am Kreuz hängend anhören: »Always Look on the Bright Side of Life«!

Mit viel Musik von Country über Pop bis Broadway haben Eric Idle und John Du Prez den Kultfilm von 1979 für die Live-Bühne in ein »Komisches Oratorium« verwandelt – ganz im Stile einer Händel-Messias-Parodie für Opernsolisten, Chor und Sinfonieorchester. Natürlich dürfen dabei weder die »Volksfront von Judäa«, ein sprachgestörter Pontius Pilatus noch geflügelte Worte wie »Jeder nur ein Kreuz!« und »Folgt der Sandale!« fehlen. Freuen Sie sich auf eine Deutschsprachige Erstaufführung, die einmal mehr perfekt an den Gärtnerplatz passt!
