New Friday is the series for you who look ahead and want to open your ears to innovative music in our time. At this concert we meet Norrbotten NEO, a unique ensemble that is always at the forefront and explores new ways of writing and thinking about music.

The program is framed by works by Polish Agata Zubel - who herself also participates on vocals. Zubel has worked with a number of the world's leading contemporary music ensembles and she has appeared in, among others, Carnegie Hall in New York and the Philharmonie in Berlin. Her voice has a unique range and she is known for using unconventional techniques. Agata Zubel has been awarded a number of awards – both as a composer and a singer. Her music is imaginative and a work like Not I provides a sample map of her vocal abilities.

Italian Carlo Boccadoro has a large list of works and he is also active as a conductor. Primo taccuino dell'ombra e della luce (First notebook of shadow and light) is an often rhythmically jarring work with short phrases and high energy. Serbian-Swedish Djuro Zivkovic's Night Music paints in a kind of warped and flexible impressionistic style, where the music seems to capture the sound tracks of nocturnal animals and insects. The piece is inspired by Aleksandr Scriabin's colorful piano music.

Norrbotten NEO is led by the American conductor Aaron Holloway-Nahum, who is also active as a composer.

Ny fredag är serien för dig som blickar framåt och vill öppna öronen för nyskapande musik i vår tid. Vid den här konserten möter vi Norrbotten NEO, en unik ensemble som alltid ligger i framkant och utforskar nya sätt att skriva och tänka om musik.

Programmet ramas in av verk av polska Agata Zubel – som själv också medverkar på sång. Zubel har arbetat med en rad av världens främsta nutida musik-ensembler och hon har framträtt i bland annat Carnegie Hall i New York och Philharmonie i Berlin. Hennes röst har ett unikt omfång och hon är känd för att använda okonoventionella tekniker. Agata Zubel har tilldelats en mängd utmärkelser – både som tonsättare och sångare. Hennes musik är fantasirik och ett verk som Not I ger en provkarta på hennes vokala förmågor.

Italienske Carlo Boccadoro har en stor verklista och han är även verksam som dirigent. Primo taccuino dell’ombra e della luce (Första anteckningsboken om skugga och ljus) är ett ofta rytmiskt krängande verk med korthuggna fraser och hög energi. Serbisk-svenske Djuro Zivkovics Night Music målar i en sorts skev och böjlig impressionistisk stil, där musiken tycks fånga upp ljudspåren av nattaktiva djur och insekter. Verket är inspirerat av Aleksandr Skrjabins färgrika pianomusik.

Norrbotten NEO leds av den amerikanske dirigenten Aaron Holloway-Nahum, som för övrigt även är verksam som tonsättare.
