New Year's concerts at the Rijeka Theater have been an indispensable tradition for thirty-nine years, and the applause with Strauss's "March of Radetzky" has been repeated many times. This season's program is based on "1001 Nights", an endlessly inspiring collection of Middle Eastern folk tales, fairy tales, humorous and instructive stories, collected over centuries that have their roots in Arabic, Greek, Indian, Jewish, Persian, Turkish literature and folklore.

In the last nights of 2021, the Rijeka Theater will resonate with orientally inspired musical stories and folk tales in general. The concert opens with a powerful, epic, fairy-tale "Story" by Jean Sibelius, followed by a story about Carl Nielsen's "Aladdin", continues with a symphonic suit "Scheherazade" by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, and even Strauss Jr. composed "Egyptian March" and waltz " One thousand and one nights. " There will also be a prelude to Richard Wagner's romantic medieval opera "Lohengrin", and the famous "Polovjecki plesovi" based on folk music from the masterpiece "Prince Igor" by Alexander Borodin, which musically intertwines two worlds - Russian and Oriental.
