Hope and utopia
Would Beethoven ever have composed the Ninth if he had known how much it would be appropriated and abusively glorified on the one hand from left and right, and on the other hand how much it would be seemingly ad absurdum over and over again through warmongering and attacks on human freedom? Yes, he would have composed them because he believed in the positive in people.
Ralf Hoyer is also aware of this, who composed a work on a text by Kerstin Hensel on behalf of the RSB, which Vladimir Jurowski wanted to precede the symphony in 2020/2021, which could not take place due to the pandemic. "I'm looking for a meaningful addition that doesn't seem superfluous, but rather, as a symphonic prologue for mezzo-soprano and orchestra, marks a contemporary starting point that already opens up a different listening perspective at the beginning of the symphony."

Hoffnung und Utopie
Hätte Beethoven die Neunte je komponiert, wenn er gewusst hätte, wie sehr sie einerseits von links und von rechts vereinnahmt und missbräuchlich glorifiziert, wie sehr sie andererseits immer wieder durch Kriegstreiberei und Angriffe auf die Freiheit der Menschen scheinbar ad absurdum geführt werden würde? Ja, er hätte sie komponiert, weil er an das Positive im Menschen geglaubt hat.
Darüber ist sich auch Ralf Hoyer im klaren, der im Auftrag des RSB ein Werk auf einen Text von Kerstin Hensel komponiert hat, welches Vladimir Jurowski bereits 2020/2021 der Sinfonie voranstellen wollte, was pandemiebedingt nicht stattfinden konnte. „Es geht mir um eine sinnvolle Ergänzung, die nicht überflüssig erscheint, sondern als sinfonischer Prolog für Mezzosopran und Orchester einen zeitgemäßen Ausgangspunkt markiert, der auf den Beginn der Sinfonie bereits eine andere Hörperspektive eröffnet.“
