Benjamin Britten, capable des audaces musicales les plus savantes, aimait les voix d’enfants, dont résonne son oeuvre entière. Il aimait les traditions populaires, les chansons, les amateurs. Ce génial compositeur était dans ses convictions, ses amitiés et son art, un esprit libre. L’Arche de Noé, basée sur trois légendes bibliques, réinvente des formes qui appartiennent au patrimoine collectif séculaire, et qui doivent être jouées, par le peuple et pour le peuple, avec ferveur et simplicité. Ici, la jeune artiste italienne protéiforme Silvia Costa associe les onze chants de Noël de Ceremony of Carols (1942) à L’Arche de Noé (1958) : la naissance de Jésus et l’Arche rescapée du Déluge comme symboles d’un espoir porté par des voix d’enfants de la Maîtrise de l’Opéra de Lyon.

Benjamin Britten, capable of the most skilful musical audacity, loved the voices of children, with which his entire work resonates. He loved popular traditions, songs, amateurs. This brilliant composer was in his convictions, his friendships and his art, a free spirit. Noah's Ark , based on three biblical legends, reinvents forms that belong to the secular collective heritage, and which must be played, by the people and for the people, with fervor and simplicity. Here, the protean young Italian artist Silvia Costa combines the eleven Christmas carols from Ceremony of Carols (1942) with Noah's Ark(1958): the birth of Jesus and the Ark that survived the Deluge as symbols of hope carried by the voices of children from the choir of the Opéra de Lyon.
