About Mme Ugalde, a great interpreter of Offenbach, Berlioz wrote: “ I would not say that she sings as a bird sings; this comparison has always seemed to me unfair and unflattering for a singer, but I will say: she sings as a bird flies. If we know by heart the technical prowess of the Doll Olympia from The Tales of Hoffmann or those of Eurydice in Orpheus in the Underworld, we know less that the virtuoso roles populate many other works by Offenbach and offer a panorama very rich in the vocal skills of the "coloratura soprano" of the 19th century . Jodie Devos, accompanied by the Ensemble Contraste, brilliantly confronts these difficulties to transform them into spectacular expressions of the romantic soul.
