Under the direction of Peter Dijkstra from 2005 to 2016, the Bavarian Radio Choir re-established its reputation as an exciting vocal ensemble and made Dijkstra a much sought after conductor. An avid fan of different repertoires and extremely deft in transiting from polyphony to a cappella for 21st-century works, Dijkstra also stands out for his renditions of Bach’s greatest works. Acclaimed for his St John Passion, he has also recorded Christmas Oratorio, praised for the choir’s “crystal-clear sound” and “amazing three-dimensionality”. It is part of this monumental work that he will direct in front of the Gulbenkian Choir and Orchestra.

Sob a liderança de Peter Dijkstra, entre 2005 e 2016, o Coro da Rádio da Baviera reafirmou um justo reconhecimento como estimulante ensemble vocal, fazendo de Dijkstra um maestro altamente requisitado. Com uma imensa avidez pelos diferentes repertórios e uma superior destreza ao transitar da polifonia a cappella para as obras do século XXI, o maestro neerlandês distinguiu-se também com as suas abordagens das grandes criações de J. S. Bach. Premiado pela sua gravação da Paixão segundo São João, registou também a Oratória de Natal, elogiada pelo “som cristalino” e pela “espantosa tridimensionalidade” do coro. É parte dessa monumental obra que agora virá dirigir, à frente do Coro e da Orquestra Gulbenkian.
