In the overture to his last opera Guillaume Tell , which tells the founding myth of Switzerland, Gioacchino Rossini portrays the nature of the Alpine republic and the sense of freedom of its inhabitants in stark contrasts. The calm, solemn cello cantilena at the beginning is followed by a thundering thunderstorm, and finally the dramatic gallop to freedom after an idyllic cow dance. The end of Piotr Tchaikovsky's 3rd symphony is similarly brilliant: it culminates in a blaring polonaise, to which it also owes its nickname.

The focus of the concert is Maurice Ravel's Piano Concerto in G major, which the composer originally wanted to call "Divertissement" to reflect its cheerful character and which he wrote for the left hand at the same time as the Piano Concerto in D major. Ravel composed the latter for the pianist Paul Wittgenstein, who had lost his right arm during the First World War. So it is not surprising that the G major Concerto is the happier of the two contrasting siblings. It is characterized by a lively mixture of jazz melodies and Spanish and Basque folklore. The work of the versatile artist Anastasia Voltchok, who enjoys international recognition not only as a pianist, will be put up for discussion. In schroffen Gegensätzen porträtiert Gioacchino Rossini in der Ouvertüre zu seiner letzten Oper Guillaume Tell, die den Gründungsmythos der Schweiz erzählt, die Natur der Alpenrepublik und den Freiheitssinn ihrer Bewohner*innen. Auf die ruhig-feierliche Cellokantilene des Beginns folgt ein donnernder Gewittersturm, auf einen idyllischen Kuhreigen schließlich der dramatische Galopp in die Freiheit. Ähnlich fulminant ist auch der Schluss von Piotr Tschaikowskis 3. Sinfonie: Sie gipfelt in einer schmetternden Polonaise, der sie auch ihren Beinamen zu verdanken hat.

Im Zentrum des Konzerts steht Maurice Ravels Klavierkonzert G-Dur, das der Komponist ursprünglich seinem heiteren Charakter entsprechend als „Divertissement“ betiteln wollte und das er zeitgleich zum Klavierkonzert D-Dur für die linke Hand schrieb. Letzteres komponierte Ravel für den Pianisten Paul Wittgenstein, der im Ersten Weltkrieg seinen rechten Arm verloren hatte. So wundert nicht, dass das G-Dur-Konzert das fröhlichere der beiden gegensätzlichen Geschwister ist. Es zeichnet sich durch eine spritzige Mischung aus Jazz-Melodien und spanischer sowie baskischer Folklore aus. Zur Diskussion gestellt wird das Werk von der vielseitigen Künstlerin Anastasia Voltchok, die nicht nur als Pianistin internationale Anerkennung genießt. Ihre Gemälde wurden bereits von Galerien in Zürich, Bologna oder New York ausgestellt, darüber hinaus veröffentlichte sie 2017 ihren ersten Gedichtband.
