1647. Mazarin wants to offer France what he considers to be the most prestigious and most successful form of expression there is: opera! He then invites Rossi to compose an Orfeo. Created in front of the regent Anne of Austria and the very young Louis XIV, the work will be the first discovery of its kind in France. Four centuries later, the enchantment is intact! And this owes a lot to the formidable work of reconstitution undertaken by the young conductor of the Pygmalion ensemble, Raphaël Pichon, and his accomplice Miguel Henry. Both have opted for a narrower version on the dramatic impact and the love triangle Orphée / Eurydice / Aristée. The refined scenography - a unique and very sober mobile wooden decor - proceeds from the same approach and gains all its success. Like this very beautiful image, extremely symbolically strong: Eurydice's wedding banquet table becomes her catafalque. The ivory of the suits and costumes evoking a bourgeois wedding today is followed by the fabulous work on the masks and headgear of the final painting, a fantastic bestiary evoking the people of the Underworld. Finally, an exceptional set of singers magnificently serves the work's infinite emotional palette. Elected Best lyric show 2016,Orfeo is one of the great events of our season!
