Orfeo ed Euridice Gluck

Orfeo laments heartrendingly about his deceased wife. Cupid enables Orfeo to free Euridice from the underworld. On the way out of Hades, Orfeo refuses to look at Euridice, as instructed by the gods. This makes her doubt his love. When Orfeo finally turns to her, Euridice falls back into the underworld...

The Orpheus myth found a completely new form in Gluck's Azione theatrale. His treatment of the story of Orpheus, who beguiled the gods of the underworld with his singing in order to bring his beloved Eurydice back to life, is of a hitherto unknown dramatic truthfulness and allows the audience to take a deep interest in the emotional world of the protagonists. The production of the Augsburg State Theater uses the archaic power of the myth to test new ways of theatrical storytelling: the underworld becomes a virtual 360° world. The audience alternately experiences the classic events on stage and - via VR glasses - the underworld, into which they dive together with Orfeo. The communal theater experience is expanded to include the dimension of individual experience of virtual reality.
