Johann Gottfried Herder once wrote: "Organs are miraculous constructions, temples, inspired by God, lingering echoes of the song of creation." The sought-after young concert organist Evan Bogerd, who was appointed organist at the famous Westerkerk in Amsterdam in 2020, will open tonight’s programme with pieces from his native Holland, between which he also will give a sample of his much-admired improvisation skills. Sweelinck's composition is an early work of the chorale and organ tradition and is based on the Lutheran hymn "Allein Gott in der Höh sey Ehr”. Cor Kint wrote his "Prélude Pastoral” in the 1920s. This quietly melodic piece in 6/8 time reminisces dreamily about times long past. Joseph Jongen's imposing "Sonata Eroïca" of 1930 is a milestone of organ music. It features impressive variations on a folk-song theme that lead into a five-part fugue. The award-winning organist Gabriele Agrimonti, born in Parma in 1995, will take over in the second part of the concert. He first will perform his own arrangement of excerpts from "Iberia", Albéniz’s 1905 masterpiece, of which Debussy raved: "You close your eyes and the music’s ingenuity makes you dizzy!" While "Evocación" strikes a nostalgic tone, "El Puerto" exuberantly captures the hustle and bustle and zest for life of an Andalusian port city – and the third piece paints a no less vivid musical picture of an ostentatious Corpus Christi procession through the metropolis of Seville. To bring the concert to a close, the young Italian virtuoso will demonstrate his prowess in free improvisation – always a fascinating act of creation in which time and space, matter and life only gradually take shape.

Johann Gottfried Herder formulierte einst: »Orgeln sind Wunderbaue, Tempel, von Gottes Hauch beseelt, Nachklänge des Schöpfungsliedes.« Der gefragte junge Konzertorganist Evan Bogerd, der seit 2020 an der berühmten Westerkerk in Amsterdam wirkt, eröffnet das Programm mit Stücken aus seiner niederländischen Heimatregion – und gibt dazwischen auch eine Kostprobe seiner bewunderten Improvisationskunst. Sweelincks Komposition ist ein frühes Werk der Choral- und Orgeltradition und basiert auf der lutherischen Hymne »Allein Gott in der Höh sey Ehr«. In den 1920er-Jahren schrieb Cor Kint sein »Prélude Pastoral«: Das ruhig-melodiöse Stück im 6/8-Takt schwelgt verträumt in Erinnerungen an längst vergangene Zeiten. Ein Meilenstein der Orgelmusik ist Joseph Jongens imposante »Sonata Eroïca« von 1930: Sie wartet mit beeindruckenden Variationen über ein Volksliedthema auf, die in eine fünfstimmige Fuge münden. Den zweiten Teil des Konzertes gestaltet der 1995 in Parma geborene und vielfach ausgezeichnete Organist Gabriele Agrimonti – zunächst mit einer eigenen Bearbeitung von Auszügen aus »Iberia«, dem Meisterwerk von Albéniz aus dem Jahr 1905, über das Debussy schwärmte: »Man schließt die Augen und es schwindelt einen vor lauter Einfallsreichtum der Musik.« Während »Evocación« nostalgische Klangbilder bietet, fängt »El Puerto« ausgelassen das geschäftige Treiben und die übersprudelnde Lebensfreude einer andalusischen Hafenstadt ein – und das dritte Stück schildert ebenso tonmalerisch eine pompöse Fronleichnamsprozession in der Metropole Sevilla. Zum Abschluss beweist dann auch der junge Italiener seine umjubelte Stärke in der freien Improvisation – stets ein faszinierender Schöpfungsakt, bei dem Zeit und Raum, Materie und Leben erst nach und nach Gestalt annehmen.
