In 1829 the famous maestro Giaochino Rossini, at the height of his artistic career, said goodbye to the world of the lyrical scene with his work William Tell. Gaetano Donizetti in reference to the aforementioned opera said: "Rossini composed the first part but the second ... it is the voice of God.” The words of Donizetti, himself a brilliant Bel Canto composer, represent a small sample of the great circle of affection and admiration that Rossini managed to build as a musician and a human being during The Little Solemn Mass was performed three times during Rossini's lifetime, the maestro himself creating a version for soloists, choir and orchestra.The composer kept this work as a great secret and that is why music lovers had to wait for the so-called Rossinian renaissance of the 20th century to be able to fully appreciate all the virtues offered by what without a doubt we must consider as a great masterpiece."
