Where does someone come from, where do they belong? In Debussy’s opera Pelléas et Mélisande, a fatal conflict develops from these existential questions. In Hubert Mouton’s arrangement for piano trio, the psychological drama has an intimate and mysterious effect. Smetana created his piano trio as a poignant memorial following the death of his daughter. Erich Korngold unfolds opulent sonorities in his Piano Quintet, which was written during a blossoming love affair.

Woher kommt jemand, wo gehört er hin? – Aus dieser Frage wächst in Debussys Oper Pelléas et Mélisande ein tödlicher Konflikt: Eine Prinzessin, scheinbar ohne Herkunft, wird von zwei Männern begehrt. In Hubert Moutons Bearbeitung für Klaviertrio wirkt Debussys Seelendrama besonders intim und geheimnisvoll. Bedřich Smetanas Klaviertrio ist ein ergreifender Klagegesang, in dem der Komponist den Tod seiner kleinen Tochter betrauert. Üppige Klangpracht entfaltet Erich Korngold in seinem Klavierquintett, das unter dem Eindruck der aufblühenden Liebe zu seiner künftigen Frau Luzi entstanden sein soll.
