Médaille d'Or du Concours Tchaïkovski en 1986, Barry Douglas se produit en récital sur toutes les grandes scènes du monde - du Royaume-Uni au Mexique, des PaysBas aux États-Unis. Il est l’invité de prestigieux orchestres, parmi lesquels le BBC Scottish Symphony, le London Symphony, le Gewandhaus de Leipzig, l’Orchestre national de Russie, l’Orchestre national de France, les Orchestres symphoniques de St Petersbourg, Cincinnati, Singapour, Seattle, Melbourne, le Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, le Hong Kong Philharmonic, le NHK de Tokyo...

 

Désireux de faire rayonner la musique irlandaise dans le monde entier, Barry Douglas a fondé en 1999, la Camerata Ireland, orchestre de chambre constitué de musiciens du Nord et de la République d'Irlande. Créé dans le but de soutenir et valoriser les jeunes talents irlandais, l'ensemble s'est aussi donné pour mission de contribuer au dialogue et à la paix, par l'élaboration de programmes éducatifs. Doté d'une réputation d'excellence, il s'est produit en Amérique du Nord et du Sud, en Chine, et bien sûr en Europe - aux BBC Proms notamment.

 

Parmi les temps forts de sa carrière de soliste, citons récemment une apparition au BBC Proms avec le Ulster Symphony Orchestra, une tournée au Royaume-Uni avec le Russian State Symphony Orchestra et des collaborations avec le Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, l’Orchestre d’Auvergne, le Greensboro Symphony Orchestra, le Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, le Vancouver Symphony ou encore le Bogota Philharmonic Orchestra. Il a également donné la première mondiale du 4ème concerto de Kevin Volan avec le Birmingham Contemporary Music Group. En musique de chambre, Barry continue sa collaboration privilégiée avec le célèbre Borodin Quartet.

 

Barry Douglas a été nommé en 2002 membre de l'Order of British Empire.

Wishing to promote Irish music throughout the world, Barry Douglas founded Camerata Ireland in 1999, a chamber orchestra made up of musicians from the North and the Republic of Ireland. Created with the aim of supporting and promoting young Irish talent, the ensemble has also given itself the mission of contributing to dialogue and peace, through the development of educational programs. With a reputation for excellence, he has performed in North and South America, China, and of course in Europe - at the BBC Proms in particular.

Highlights of his solo career include a recent appearance at the BBC Proms with the Ulster Symphony Orchestra, a UK tour with the Russian State Symphony Orchestra and collaborations with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchester d'Auvergne , the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra, the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, the Vancouver Symphony and the Bogota Philharmonic Orchestra. He also gave the world premiere of Kevin Volan's 4th Concerto with the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group. In chamber music, Barry continues his privileged collaboration with the famous Borodin Quartet.
