On his way from the animated wooden doll to the real boy made of flesh and blood, Pinocchio has to endure numerous adventures in which he proves his courage and sticks to his father, the woodcarver Geppetto. He has to defend himself against some dangerous characters like the greedy fox and tomcat, seedy ring directors and even a huge whale.

The hard way, Pinocchio learns that if he lies too much, his nose grows inconveniently in length and what nasty consequences comfort, truancy and a stay in the seemingly paradisiacal land of idleness can have. Always on his side is the mysterious fairy with the dark blue hair, who repeatedly saves him and finally brings him back to his long-lost father. The Italian composer Lucia Ronchetti, whose musical theater works “Last desire”, “Lezioni di tenebra” and “Rivale” have already been performed at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, wrote her “Pinocchio” children's opera in 2015 for the Ensemble Intercontemporain. For the text, she closely followed the original version of the classic children's book by Carlo Collodi from 1883.

Auf seinem Weg von der belebten Holzpuppe zum echten Jungen aus Fleisch und Blut muss Pinocchio zahlreiche Abenteuer überstehen, bei denen er seinen Mut beweist und zu seinem Vater, dem Holzschnitzer Geppetto, hält. Dabei muss er sich gegen einige gefährliche Gestalten wie den gierigen Fuchs und Kater, zwielichtige Zirkusdirektoren und sogar einen riesigen Walfisch zur Wehr setzen.
