Jeden nosił finezyjną perukę i korzystał z powozu, drugi słuchał radia i korzystał z komputera. Tak różni, a jednak podobni. Choć Claudia Monteverdiego i Györgya Ligetiego dzielą niemal cztery stulecia, to łączy ich to, jak wiele znaczyli dla swojej epoki.

Pochodzący z Cremony Monteverdi szybko zyskał przychylność publiczności i do dziś uważany jest za pierwszą wybitną osobowość muzyki baroku. Nic więc dziwnego, że już za życia otrzymał przydomek „divino” („boski”). Dał się poznać jako twórca o licznych, oryginalnych pomysłach, a także dużej zdolności subtelnego łączenia poezji z muzyką. Rozpoczął od skomponowania czterech Ksiąg madrygałów, by potem zmierzyć się z melodią i słowem na gruncie opery – jego słynny Orfeusz dał początek modzie na muzykę sceniczną. Zawarte w dziele nowatorskie pomysły zostały ciepło przyjęte przez ówczesnych słuchaczy. Bogactwu brzmienia, różnorodności technik kompozytorskich oraz doskonałej spójności muzyki z librettem uległ nawet ówczesny książę Mantui, Vinzenzo Gonzaga – legenda głosi, że jego wzruszenie nie miało granic i władca zanosił się płaczem podczas prawykonania utworu.  

Twórczość Monteverdiego usłyszymy w towarzystwie dzieł jednego z największych kompozytorów dwudziestowiecznej awangardy. Zmarły 10 lat temu Ligeti wyróżniał się nie tylko na tle stulecia, ale również pośród swych rówieśników, będąc jednym z najbardziej nowatorskich i wpływowych artystów. Zasłynął między innymi jako twórca skomplikowanej techniki zwanej mikropolifonią, nawiązującej w szczególny sposób do renesansowej i barokowej sztuki łączenia ze sobą partii poszczególnych głosów – u Ligetiego są one tak blisko, że nie da się ich wręcz odróżnić. Dzieła mistrzów swych epok usłyszymy w stylowych wykonaniach – w muzyce Monteverdiego nie zabraknie więc instrumentów dawnych.

One wore a fine wig and used a carriage, the other listened to the radio and used a computer. So different, yet similar. Although Claudio Monteverdi and György Ligeti are separated by almost four centuries, what they have in common is how much they meant to their era.

Coming from Cremona, Monteverdi quickly gained the audience's favor and is still considered the first outstanding personality of Baroque music. No wonder that during his lifetime he received the nickname "divino" ("divine"). He became known as an artist with numerous, original ideas, as well as a great ability to subtly combine poetry with music. He began by composing four books of madrigals , and then tackled melody and word on the basis of opera - his famous Orpheusgave rise to the fashion for stage music. The innovative ideas contained in the work were warmly received by the listeners of the time. The richness of the sound, the variety of compositional techniques and the perfect cohesion of the music with the libretto were succumbed even to the then Duke of Mantua, Vinzenzo Gonzaga - legend has it that his emotion knew no bounds and the ruler burst into tears during the premiere performance of the work.  

We will hear Monteverdi's work accompanied by works by one of the greatest composers of the twentieth-century avant-garde. Ligeti, who died 10 years ago, stood out not only against the background of the century, but also among his peers, being one of the most innovative and influential artists. He became famous, among others, as the creator of a complicated technique called micropolyphony, referring in a special way to the Renaissance and Baroque art of combining parts of individual voices - in Ligeti they are so close that they cannot even be distinguished. We will hear the works of the masters of their epochs in stylish performances – so Monteverdi's music will not lack old instruments.
