Mozarts Requiem in d-Moll ist ein faszinierendes Meisterwerk, ein wunderbares, emotional anregendes Stück, das unzählige Menschen auf der ganzen Welt heute genauso in seinen Bann zieht wie vor Jahrhunderten, als es am 2. Januar 1793 uraufgeführt wurde.

Es gibt wohl wenige andere berühmte Werke der Musikliteratur, deren Entstehung Anlass zu so vielen Theorien und Nachforschungen gegeben hat, wie Mozarts letztes Werk. Vieles liegt nach wie vor im Dunkeln und wird wohl nie ganz geklärt werden. Sicher ist mittlerweile, dass der geheimnisvolle Auftraggeber einst in Gloggnitz residierte und dass nur etwa zwei Drittel des Werkes aus Mozarts Feder stammen. Doch das tut der musikalischen Qualität und Bedeutung sowie der Wirkung, die das Werk auf die Zuhörenden hat, keinen Abbruch.

Mit der Aufführung knapp vor Beginn der Karwoche wird das Requiem dort aufgeführt, wo es auch in Auftrag gegeben wurde. Eigentlich gedacht als Valentinsgabe an die verstorbene Gemahlin des Auftraggebers aus Gloggnitz, könnte der Termin zwischen dem Valentinstag und dem Ostersonntag nicht besser gewählt sein.

Der Kammerchor und das Orchester der Wiener Kirchenmusik St. Augustin zelebrieren die wunderbaren Klänge von Mozarts letztem Werk am Sonntag, 26. März 2023 unter anderen auf der berühmten Orgel von Josef Mertin. Unter der Leitung von Kirchenmusikdirektor Peter Tiefengraber entführen Sie Solist*innen und erfahrenen Musiker*innen in die mystische Welt von Mozarts Requiem. Dabei spielt auch das beeindruckende Bauwerk, die Christkönigskirche von Architekten Clemens Holzmeister, eine (klang)tragende Rolle.

Mozart's Requiem in D minor is a fascinating masterpiece, a beautiful, emotionally stimulating piece that captivates countless people around the world today as it did centuries ago when it was first performed on January 2, 1793.

There are probably few other famous works of musical literature whose creation has given rise to as much theory and research as Mozart's last work. Much is still in the dark and will probably never be fully clarified. It is now certain that the mysterious client once resided in Gloggnitz and that only about two thirds of the work came from Mozart's pen. But that does not detract from the musical quality and meaning, or the effect the work has on the listener.

With the performance just before the beginning of Holy Week, the Requiem will be performed where it was commissioned. Actually intended as a Valentine's gift to the deceased wife of the client from Gloggnitz, the date between Valentine's Day and Easter Sunday could not have been better chosen.

The chamber choir and the orchestra of the Vienna Church Music St. Augustin celebrate the wonderful sounds of Mozart's last work on Sunday, March 26, 2023, among others on the famous organ by Josef Mertin. Under the direction of Church Music Director Peter Tiefengraber, soloists and experienced musicians will take you into the mystical world of Mozart's Requiem. The impressive building, the Christkönigskirche by architect Clemens Holzmeister, also plays a (sound) supporting role.
