Opera Rigoletto created in 1851 is one of masterpieces of Giusepe Verdi, an Italian master of opera. Rigoletto, La Traviata and Troubadour are three great works during his middle phase of creation life. The opera has been played for over a century with great success.

The script of the opera Rigoletto is adapted from Victor Hugo's drama. Verdi highlights the dramatic composition and vividly portrays the rich inner emotions and personality of characters in the opera with wonderful music skills. Audiences are deeply impressed by three sharp images, namely Rigoletto with indecisive characters and protean emotions, romantic, passionate and fickle dukes as well as girl Gilda full of purity and poetic fantasy. A number of arias are well-known in the world, including Fickle Woman which becomes a classic hit thanks to its lively rhythms and fancy tones.

This work demonstrates extraordinary integrity and harmony, which is rarely seen in the works of Verdi. It marks a new beginning of music creation period by Verdi. Since then his opera music tends to create a colorful world of emotions interwoven with joys and pains, tears and laughter, through which his romantic style is expressed.

Teatro Regio di Parma
The Teatro Regio (Royal Theatre) opened in 1829, after a very long and rich theatrical and musical history in this culturally ebullient town. It is perfectly represents its ideal of social and cultural fusion.

The opening opera was Vincenzo Bellini's "Zaira". "Zaira" was not a first choice, however: Rossini had been contacted long before the inauguration of the theatre, but the difficult negotiation proved unfruitful. However it is with Rossini that the first season went on, with the great success of "Moises and Pharaon" and with the triumph of "Semiramide".

The first decades of the Nineteenth century saw the repertoire of Teatro Regio extended to the "triad" of "bel canto": Rossini, Bellini and Donizetti. But things changed radically, when Verdi came along in 1850.Only a few years after the consecration of Rossini, Italian composer in the woeld. The Teatro Regio has been colsely linked to his life and work ever since, and hosts the annual Verdi Festival every antumn.

Over the years the Teatro Regio's stage has been graced by many famous artists such as Beniamino Gigli, Maria Caniglia, Mario Caniglia, Mario Del Monaco, Ebe Stignani, Alfredo Kraus, Josè Carreras, Katia Ricciarelli, Renato Bruson, Raina Kabaivanska, Cesare Siepi, Boris Christoff and Barbara Hendricks. From 2009, Yuri Temirkanov is the Musical Director of the Theatre.
