This marks Rolando Villazón’s directorial debut in a dual-role: Stage director and star singer at the same time for Donizetti’s "L'elisir d'amore” on Deutsche Grammophon.
Inspired by the cartoon character Lucky Luke and the Spaghetti Western-tradition, the tenor’s staging for the Baden-Baden Festspielhaus is not only a film studio in the thirties but also a Western at the same time. Apart from the opera, the DVD includes a very engaging and interesting “Behind the scenes ‘Rolando Villazón's 'L´elisir d´amore' in the wild West’, filmed by Friedemann Hottenbacher.

On ne présente plus Rolando Villazón. Bien plus encore qu’un grand chanteur, c’est une personnalité incroyablement attachante qui séduit encore et encore le public, récoltant un succès triomphal à chacune de ses apparitions. Nul doute que ce concert « portrait » ravira à nouveau ses fans ! Le ténor franco-mexicain chantera avec bonheur ses compositeurs de prédilection, Mozart et Verdi ; mais il offrira aussi des zarzuelas et des canzoni napoletane, un répertoire haut en couleurs qu’il défend comme personne.
