미국으로 망명한 벨라 바르토크는 고독했고 무일푼이었으며 건강이 좋지 않았다. 그런 환경에서도 그는 20세기 음악 중 가장 빛나는 환희의 함성을 창조해냈다. 이 ‘오케스트라를 위한 협주곡’은 삶에 대한 찬가이며, 맵싸한 색채와 화려한 춤곡 선율을 사용해 강렬한 효과를 낸다. 콘서트마다 저마다의 ‘스토리’가 있지만, 슬로베니아 출신 객원지휘자 마르코 레토냐는 이번 콘서트를 특별히 이야기로 채운다. 라벨의 ‘엄마거위’이야기 및 차이콥스키가 18세기 음악에 부친 오마주인 로코코 바리에이션이 바르토크와 동향인 헝가리 첼리스트 미클로시 페레니의 연주로 펼쳐진다.

Bela Bartok, who went into exile in the United States, was lonely, penniless, and in poor health. Even in such circumstances, he created the most brilliant shout of joy in 20th century music. This 'Concerto for Orchestra' is a hymn to life, and uses vivid colors and splendid dance melodies to create a powerful effect. Each concert has its own ‘story’, but Slovenian guest conductor Marco Letonja fills this concert with a special story. Ravel's 'Mother Goose' story and Tchaikovsky's Rococo variation, an homage to 18th-century music, are performed by Hungarian cellist Miklós Perenyi, a contemporary of Bartok.
