Két zeneszerző, akikben kevés a közös vonás. Abban mégis hasonlítanak, hogy egyikük életművében sem játszik döntő szerepet az egyházi zene. Az idős Verdi azonban megírja Quattro pezzi sacri (Négy szent ének) című művét, az ötvenegy éves Poulenc pedig a Stabat Matert. A két mű arról tanúskodik, hogy mindkét komponistának akadtak olyan gondolatai és érzései, amelyeket csak ezekben a tételekben vallhatott meg a világnak. A Nemzeti Énekkar és a Nemzeti Filharmonikus Zenekar koncertjén Somos Csaba karigazgató vezényel.

A francia hatok tagjáról, Francis Poulencről úgy vélték pályatársai, barátai, ismerősei, hogy könnyed, szellemes, elegáns művész, akitől még a frivolitás sem idegen. Amikor azonban 1949-ben meghalt barátja, a festő és díszlettervező Christian Bérard, megírta kórusra és zenekarra fogalmazott tizenkét tételes Stabat Materét, amelynek három tételében szopránszólista is énekel. Giuseppe Verdi Négy szent ének című alkotása (a pezzo valójában darabot jelent) nem egyetlen összefüggő ciklusként keletkezett: eredetileg négy különálló tétel, melyek közül az a cappella Ave Maria, illetve a szintén kíséret nélküli Laudi alla Vergine Maria 1889-ben és 1886/88-ban készült, míg a zenekart is foglalkoztató Stabat Mater és Te Deum évszámai 1896/97 és 1895/96. A mű ősbemutatója (az Ave Maria nélkül) 1898-ban zajlott le a Párizsi Operában.

A hangverseny szólistája, Kristófi Ágnes 1973-ban született Nagyváradon, tanulmányait szülővárosában kezdte meg, majd a Budapesti Liszt Ferenc Zeneművészeti Egyetemen fejezte be. A Nemzeti Énekkar tagja.  Somos Csaba Liszt-díjas karmester 2016. áprilisa óta a Nemzeti Énekkar karigazgatója. Érdeklődésének középpontjában egyszerre van jelen a vokális és instrumentális zene. Legfőbb művészi célkitűzése a szenvedélyes interpretáció, a professzionalizmuson túlmutató zenei átütő erő elérése.

Two conductors with little in common. One point of comparison, however, is the fact that neither of them focused heavily on church music. Nevertheless, the ageing Verdi wrote his Quattro pezzi sacri (Four Sacred Songs), while Poulenc crafted his Stabat Mater at 51. The two works testify to the way in which both composers had thoughts and feelings that they could only reveal to the world in these movements. Conducting this concert by the Hungarian National Choir and Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra will be Csaba Somos.

A member of the circle of French composers known as “Le Six”, Poulenc was considered by his colleagues, friends and acquaintances to be an easy-going, witty and elegant artist who was not even averse to frivolity. When his friend the painter and set designer Christian Bérard died in 1949, however, he wrote his 12-movement Stabat Mater, conceived for choir and orchestra, with three of the movements sung by a soprano soloist. Verdi’s work Quattro pezzi sacri (the word pezzo actually means “piece”) was not conceived as a single interrelated cycle: it started out as four separate movements, of which the a capella Ave Maria and the likewise unaccompanied Laudi alla Vergine Maria were written in 1889 and 1886/88 respectively, while the Stabat Mater and Te Deum, which also employed an orchestra, date from 1896/97 and 1895/96. The work (minus the Ave Maria) received its world première at the Paris Opera in 1898.

Ágnes Kristófi, the soloist for the concert, was born in Nagyvárad (Oradea) in 1973 and began her studies in her home town before graduating from the Liszt Academy in Budapest. She is a member of the Hungarian National Choir.

Liszt Award-winning conductor Csaba Somos has served as the choirmaster of the Hungarian National Choir since April 2016. His focus lies on both vocal and instrumental music. His main artistic goal is to find passionate interpretations whose musical power surpasses simple professionalism.
