Stéphane Degout est sans doute l’un de nos plus grands chanteurs français d’aujourd’hui, portant très haut la tradition d’un phrasé impeccable, d’un art accompli de la déclamation et d’un timbre d’une extrême noblesse. La prise de rôle de ce formidable acteur dans le Wozzeck de Berg la saison dernière au Théâtre du Capitole est apparue à tous comme un événement majeur. Souverain aussi bien dans la musique baroque que dans l’opéra romantique, il est également un interprète privilégié du lied et de la mélodie, conférant à chaque mot, dans Schumann ou Ropartz notamment, une palette infinie de nuances et d’émotions.
