After two successful collaborations with symphony orchestras: Asplund meets Bernstein and Somehow life got in the way - both of which received the Orchestra Journal's Golden Record - here comes their third: T he Heart of the Song . Newly written arrangements on music by Jerome Kern, Irving Berlin, Richard Rodgers, George Gershwin, Harold Arlen, Cole Porter and others, are presented together with pianist Lars Jansson, bassist Hans Andersson and drummer Calle Rasmusson.

The song treasure The Great American songbook , was written and developed during the first part of the 20th century, for Broadway musicals, Hollywood movies and as popular music for radio and stage. It grew out of the crucible of cultures that converged on the North American continent. English folk songs, Viennese operetta, African rhythms, Blues, Irish and Jewish melodies as well as Ragtime, were the various influences and elements that came to shape American popular song. Hand in hand with this development also came jazz, where jazz musicians - in addition to writing their own music - always improvised over and used The Great American songbook, as a repertoire basis. In other words, it is no wonder that some of the country's leading jazz musicians / organizers are hosting this program.
