Das Klaviertrio von Beethoven in der klassischen Besetzung Violine, Violoncello und Klavier ist ein virtuoses Feuerwerk voller Dramatik. Der Armenier Chatschaturjan, von dem die meisten nur den berühmten Säbeltanz kennen, komponierte ein pfiffiges Werk voller Orientalismen. Und das großartige zweite Klaviertrio von Schostakowitsch ist ein Jahrhundertwerk, das in den dunkelsten Zeiten des Stalinismus und des zweiten Weltkrieges geschrieben wurde und niemanden unberührt lassen kann.

Staatsphilharmonie percussionists are the key players in this concert, firstly in quartet form with “Motus II”, the group around Estonian composer Erkki-Sven Tüür. In André Jolivet’s “Suite en concert” percussion instruments are juxtaposed with a piece for solo flute. And the evening is rounded off with one of the greatest works of the 20th century: Dmitri Shostakovich’s 15th Symphony in the version for piano trio and percussion section. Arranger Viktor Derevianko was one of the pianists who was assigned to perform a version of the symphony for two pianos before the Composers Association prior to the premiere – not even the great Shostakovich was spared this indignity.
