Une education manquée, operetta in one act, music by Emmanuel Chabrier and libretto by Eugene Leterrier and Albert Vanloo. The premiere of this work took place in Paris in 1879, and included the participation of the composer performing the piano part. She was greatly admired by Ravel, Hahn, and Messager, among others.

Fresh from their wedding, the young Count Gontran and his wife Elena are awaiting tips for their wedding night.
Elena has just left the convent and Gontran from the tutelage of her preceptor, Master Pausanias, who has instructed him in everything except love and marriage.

Desperate, he calls his tutor for advice on his wedding night. Gontran complains and reproaches him for not giving him a complete instruction. But Pausanias defends himself by insisting that he has taught him everything, languages, philosophy, mathematics... Finally, Pausanias admits that he does not know what to answer because he has always been too busy and that this subject is not included in the study program.

The teacher goes out in search of a colleague to ask him for information.
Gontran, alone again, curses his tutor and, as a storm breaks out, confesses his frustration.

Elena rushes into the room in a light nightgown and explains that she is afraid of the storm. Gontran, disturbed by her beauty and by how attractive she seems to him in that garment, tells her that the best way to not feel fear is for the two of them to remain together hand in hand. Then both, gradually getting closer, end up kissing over and over again and end up finding the answers to their questions. The two young spouses are interrupted by Pausanias, who returns, too late, with the answer expected of him. Gontran orders him to leave, since he no longer needs him.
