ADRIANO MARTINOLLI D’ARCY is an orchestra conductor of international background and vocation: he was born in Trieste, Italy, in 1961 and he is both Italian and British citizen.
After his Composition and Choir Conducting studies at the Music Conservatory of Trieste and Milan, he moved to Vienna where he graduated in Orchestra conducting at the Music Academy of Vienna in 1991. Two years later he attended a specialization course in Berlin.
At the head of important ensembles such as the Orchestra Sinfonica della RAI of Milan, the Philharmonia Orchestra of London, the N.Ö. Tonkunstlerorchester of Vienna, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Graz, the Württembergische Philharmonie of Reutlingen, the Orquestra Metropolitana of Lisbon, the Bruno Maderna Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra dei Pomeriggi musicali of Milan, the Orchestra Filarmonica del Teatro G.Verdi of Trieste, and many others groups, he conducs both traditional and contemporary repertoire as well as numerous first performances, giving concerts in Italy, Austria, France, Portugal, Germany, Slovenia, Croatia, Rumania, Cech Republik and Mexiko.
For the National Theatre in Trieste he conducted the contemporary opera “Il canto del cigno – The swan song” by Giampaolo Coral.
His discography encloses publications for relevant international labels:
with the Philharmonia Orchestra of London he recorded in 2003 four Symphonic poems by Liszt for the Italian label “Real Sound”. The Austrian label Gramola of Vienna released a beautiful CD of Mahler and Wagner Songs called “Urlicht” with the mezzo-soprano Barbara Hölzl and A. Martinolli D’Arcy conducting the Wuertembergische Philharmonie. In 2009 the German label “Solo Voce” of Köln released the first word recording of Franz von Suppè’s Missa Dalmatica conducted by Adriano Martinolli. In 2013 the German label CPO released a double Cd of the Requiem-Oratorium “Extremum Judicium” by Franz von Suppè, recorded at the head of the Orchestra and Choir of the Graz opera house.
All the recordings and especially this double CD received numerous good reviews by the international critics.
Adriano Martinolli D’Arcy is very envolved in the contemporary music field: he conducted numerous concerts for the most important European Festivals such as Aspekte Salzburg, Biennale Musica Zagreb, Prag Europe Festival, The New Music Week of Bucarest, Spazio Musica of Cagliari, Mittelfest, Arnold Schönberg Center of Vienna, conducting groups such as Cantus Ensemble Zagreb, the GMCL, Grupo de Musica Contemporanea de Lisboa and the Chromas Ensemble of which he has been for a long time the principal conductor.
He edited the scores of the romantic opera “The sailor's return” and of the extense Requiem-Oratorium “Extremum Judicium” by Franz von Suppè.
After a long research work he brought out two volumes of Antonio Illersberg’s (1882 – 1953) unpublished music.

He has been teaching Orchestra conducting at the Music Conservatories in Cagliari and in Milan; actually he is teacher at the National Music Conservatory in Trieste (Italy) for Choir conducting and choral repertoire.
He speaks fluently four languages and he has been designated Honorary Consul of Portugal by the Italian Foreign Office.

ADRIANO MARTINOLLI D’ARCY wurde im Jahre 1961 in Triest geboren und ist sowohl italienischer als auch britischer Staatsbürger. Nach dem Kompositions- und Chorleitungsstudium an den Konservatorien in Triest und Mailand siedelte er nach Wien über, wo er seine Ausbildung an der „Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Wien“ fortsetzte und 1991 sein Dirigentenstudium abschloss. Zwei Jahre später vervollkommnete er sein Ausbildung in Berlin.

 

Am Pult verschiedener Orchester wie beispielsweise dem Orchestra Sinfonica della Rai in Mailand, dem Philharmonia Orchestra in London, dem Grazer Philharmoniker, dem NÖ. Tonkünstlerorchester in Wien, dem Staatsopernorchester Bukarest, dem Orquestra Metropolitana in Lissabon, dem Orchestra dei Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano, dem Bruno Maderna Orchester und dem Orchestra del Teatro Lirico G. Verdi in Triest gab er in Italien und im Ausland Konzerte bei bedeutenden Institutionen und in namhaften Konzertsälen, wobei er außer dem traditionellen Repertoire auch zahlreiche Erstaufführungen dirigierte.

Zusammen mit dem auf historischen Instrumenten spielenden Orchestra „G.B. Tiepolo“ hat er eine wichtige werktreue Aufführung der Werke Mozarts vorgelegt. Für die Staatsoper Triest hat er eine Erstaufführung inszeniert sowie zahlreiche Erstaufführungen uraufgeführt. Als ständiger Dirigent des Chromas Ensemble hat er Konzerte bei einigen der bedeutendsten Festivals für zeitgenössische Musik in Europa gegeben, wie beispielsweise bei Aspekte Salzburg, Biennale Musica in Zagreb, Prag – Europa Festival, The New Music Week in Bukarest und der Gruppe Spazio Musica in Cagliari; mit der er auch viele Aufnahmen für die Rai und andere europäische Rundfunksender durchgeführt hat. Nach langjährigen Forschungs- und Rekonstruktionssarbeiten der Kompositionen hat er zwei Bände bislang unveröffentlichter Musik von Antonio Illersberg (1882-1953) herausgegeben.

An der Spitze des Philharmonia Orchestra hat er für das Label „RS“, 4 Symphonische Dichtungen von Franz Liszt eigespielt.
Das Label Gramola-Vienna hat ein CD von Mahler und Wagner Orchesterlieder mit dem Mezzosopran Barbara Hölzl und der Württembergischen Philharmonie herausgegeben.
Im Jahre 2009 hat das deutsche Label “Solo Voce” aus Köln die Welt-Ersteinspielung der Missa Dalmatica von Franz von Suppè unter der Leitung von Adriano Martinolli D'Arcy veröffentlicht. Im Jahre 2012 hat er das große neuentdekte Oratorium Suppè’s Extremum Judicium mit dem Grazer Phliharmoniker und dem Grazer Theater Chor aufgenommen. Diese World Premiere ist im Juni 2013 unter dem deutschen Klassiklabel CPO erschinen.

ADRIANO MARTINOLLI D'ARCY, è direttore d’orchestra di formazione e vocazione internazionale: nato a Trieste nel 1961, è cittadino italiano e britannico. Dopo gli studi di Composizione e di Direzione di coro presso i Conservatori di Trieste e di Milano, trasferitosi a Vienna, si laurea in Direzione d'Orchestra nel 1991. Due anni più tardi si perfeziona a Berlino.
Alla guida di diverse formazioni come l'Orchestra Sinfonica della RAI di Milano, la Philharmonia Orchestra di Londra, la Württembergische Philharmonie, la NÖ Tonkünstler Orchester di Vienna, l’Orchestra Filarmonica di Graz, l'Orchestra Metropolitana di Lisbona, l’Orchestra dei Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano, l'Orchestra Bruno Maderna, l'Orchestra del Teatro lirico G. Verdi di Trieste ed altre compagni orchestrali, tiene concerti in Italia e all'estero per importanti Istituzioni ed in sedi prestigiose, dirigendo oltre al repertorio tradizionale,  numerose prime esecuzioni assolute. Per l'Ente lirico di Trieste ha diretto l'allestimento dell’opera contemporanea “Il canto del Cigno” di Giampaolo Coral.


La discografia comprende pubblicazioni per prestigiose etichette internazionali: alla testa della Phiharmonia Orchestra di Londra ha inciso quattro Poemi sinfonici di Liszt per “RS” – Real Sound. Per Gramola di Vienna ha inciso URLICHT, un CD di Orchesterlieder di Mahler e Wagner con il Mezzosoprano Barbara Hölzl e la Württembergische Philharmonie. Con l'etichetta tedesca “Solo Voce” di Köln ha pubblicato la Missa Dalmatica di Franz von Suppè, prima incisione assoluta di quest'opera.
Nel 2012 ha inciso il grande oratorio EXTREMUM JUDICIUM di Franz von Suppè per la casa discografica tedesca CPO con l’Orchestra Filarmonica di Graz e il Coro del Teatro dell’Opera di Graz. Sempre di Franz von Suppè, nel 2016 ha inciso IL RITORNO DEL MARINAIO, opera romantica in due atti per la CPO con il Coro e l'Orchestra del Teatro di Rijeka / Fiume (Croazia) ed un cast internazionale.

Tutte le incisioni, ed in particolare i doppi CD della CPO, hanno ricevuto innumerevoli consensi dalla critica internazionale.


Molto attivo nel campo della musica contemporanea, ha tenuto concerti nei maggiori Festival in Europa quali Aspekte Salzburg, Biennale Musica di Zagabria, Praga Europa Festival, The New Music Week di Bucarest, Spazio Musica di Cagliari, Mittelfest, Arnold Schönberg Center di Vienna, alla testa di gruppi come il Cantus Ensemble di Zagabria, il Grupo de Musica Contemporanea de Lisboa e il Chromas Ensemble di cui è stato a lungo il direttore stabile.
Svolge una costante attività di ricerca musicologica in particolare su Franz von Suppè di cui ha curato il ricupero e la riedizione dell’Opera romantica “Il ritorno del Marinaio”, del grande oratorio “Extremum judicium” e della Missa Dalmatica. Ha curato inoltre il ricupero e la pubblicazione di innumerevoli partiture inedite per Orchestra e per Coro di Antonio Illersberg (1882 – 1953), tra cui il Concerto per Violino, il Preludio e Capriccio, Ouverture 1919 e due antologie di musica corale.

Adriano Martinolli D’Arcy ha ricoperto la cattedra di Direzione d’Orchestra presso i Conservatori di Cagliari e Milano ed è attualmente titolare della Cattedra di Direzione di Coro presso il Conservatorio di Trieste.

Parla correntemente quattro lingue e dal 2009 è Console Onorario del Portogallo con nomina del Ministero degli Esteri.
