Matthieu Mantanus

Born in 1978, Matthieu Mantanus is the associate conductor of Lorin Maazel for the 2011 Castleton Festival and the principal conductor of the Ravenna Symphony Orchestra. Alongside his career as a pianist which led to his playing in Sala Verdi in Milan with the Concertgebouw of Amsterdam, he decided to follow a career in conducting, studying in Rome with Bruno Aprea.  In his capacity as a volunteer assistant, he studied under the master Giuseppe Sinopoli, and attended numerous master classes, including with Jorma Panula and Gianluigi Gelmetti. Invited by Lorin Mazel as a fellow in 2009 at the Castleton Festival, he became Maazel's assistant in Washington for a production by Bari's Petruzzelli theatre and associate conductor for the 2011 Festival.
