Paris around 1830: The poet Rodolfo and his friends have dedicated their lives entirely to art, even if their stomachs growl with hunger and it is usually very cold in their studio because there is no money left for firewood. On Christmas Eve, when only Rodolfo remains in the studio - his friends are going to party with some money in their pockets - Rodolfo finds his great love, the neighbor Mimì. How are you going to continue with the two of them? 
The composer Giacomo Puccini knew the poor living conditions of many artists only too well because he experienced them himself at a young age.  
No wonder, then, that he decided to compose an opera from a novel, thereby giving the music world one of the most poignant final scenes in opera literature. After all, this moved the composer himself to tears.
