Commissioned by Egypt's chedyves for the opening of the Suez Canal and - by the way - the Cairo Opera House,  Aida is intimidating with its panache. Everything was fabulous, from Verdi's fee (150,000 gold francs) to the executive team (in outdoor performances, even several hundred choristers and extras, real horses and exotic game). In  Aida 's story we find at least two wars: the one on display, the Egyptian-Ethiopian one, and the real one, the Franco-Prussian one. The latter prevented the outbreak of the former for a year: the Prussians besieging Paris also besieged the decorations prepared for the show. The grand opera, spectacular by definition, in its Warsaw edition does not divert attention from its outstanding musical qualities with its ostentatious exoticism. The famous part of Aida, covering the two symbolic octaves of the soprano (from C to C), is after all an absolute soprano! The ancient conflict has won the hearts of opera fans for years. And it will happen again, no different!

Zamówiona przez chedywa Egiptu na okoliczność otwarcia Kanału Sueskiego i – przy okazji – Opery Kairskiej Aida onieśmiela rozmachem. Wszystko było bajeczne, poczynając od honorarium Verdiego (150 tys. franków w złocie), na zespole wykonawczym kończąc (w plenerowych przedstawieniach nawet kilkuset chórzystów i statystów, do tego prawdziwe konie i egzotyczna zwierzyna). W historii Aidy znajdziemy przynajmniej dwie wojny: ta wystawiana, egipsko-etiopska oraz prawdziwa, francusko-pruska. Ta druga powstrzymała na rok wybuch tej pierwszej: Prusacy oblegając Paryż, oblegali również przygotowane na przedstawienie dekoracje. Grand opera, z definicji widowiskowa, w warszawskim wydaniu nie odwraca ostentacyjną egzotyką uwagi od wybitnych walorów muzycznych. Słynna partia Aidy, obejmująca dwie symboliczne oktawy sopranu (od C do C) to przecież sopran absolutny! Starożytny konflikt zdobywa serca wielbicieli opery od lat. I to się powtórzy, nie inaczej!
