The opera “Aida”, one of Giuseppe Verdi's most famous operas, is set in the land of the pharaohs. The beautiful daughter of the Ethiopian king, Aida, is abducted to Egypt. There she loses her heart to the brave general Radames, who, however, goes to war against her homeland. The unfortunate woman has to choose between her Ethiopian roots and her love for Radames. “Aida” was commissioned by the Cairo Opera and premiered in the Egyptian capital in 1871, and from there it conquered the world's stages.
