The traditional Festival Service includes Aldeburgh Voices singing Kodály’s Missa Brevis and music by featured composer Judith Weir.
The first Aldeburgh Festival Service was in 1950. Kodály visited Aldeburgh in 1965, while his colourful Missa Brevis formed a part of a 1949 Festival programme which also featured Taverner’s Western Wynde Mass.

Our resident chamber choir Aldeburgh Voices will be singing movements of the Mass alongside Judith Weir’s setting of George Herbert’s poem A Wreath, commissioned in memory of Edmund Bridges. The Address on this day of celebration and thanksgiving, taking place as usual in the church where both Britten and Pears are buried, is by the Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich.
