Whether in the grandest of operas or the most intimate of song recitals, you can expect music-making of epic beauty and dramatic power from the legendary soprano Anna Netrebko, one of the most compelling living interpreters of Verdi’s Aida, Tchaikovsky’s Tatyana (Eugene Onegin) and Puccini’s Tosca.

She has been recognised at the highest levels, including receiving three Grammy Award nominations and Classical BRIT Awards for Singer of the Year and Female Artist of the Year, and has been named on TIME magazine’s annual list of the world’s 100 most influential people—the first classical artist ever to be included.

In their first Hong Kong appearance since a sensational sold-out performance in 2016, Netrebko and her husband, tenor Yusif Eyvazov, join pianist Rachel Cheung for a recital that places the art of song itself in magical close-up—and it is certainly the case that genius loves company. Eyvazov is a major star in his own right—“an exciting tenor whose sound is metallic, stentorian and markedly Italianate”, writes the Los Angeles Times—and Cheung, too, is an active chamber musician with a remarkable career: the Hong Kong-born pianist has won prizes at the Van Cliburn, Leeds, Chopin, Horowitz, Gina Bachauer, and Geneva International Piano Competitions. Now they come together in a programme of music close to their hearts: the dark, poetic Russian romances of Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov and Rimsky-Korsakov, and the passionate Italian songs of Tosti and de Curtis.
