The love between Ariodante and Ginevra, who are about to marry, is unsettled by an intrigue by Polinesso. The music of Handel's Ariodante traces the different and highly complex emotional states of the characters. In this way, the characters of the medieval knight epic become tangible and alive. In his scenic implementation, Rennik-Jan Neggers condenses the baroque opera to its emotional peaks in order to trace this love, which triumphs despite adverse circumstances.
