Herbstgold 2022 starts with an "Operetta" in which passions burn, even if they are kindled musically by a twelve-year-old composer: "Operetta", i.e. "little opera", that's what Mr. Papa called the Singspiel "Bastien und Bastienne" from the pen of his son Wolfgang Amadé Mozart. According to tradition, it was first performed in the circle of the mysterious Viennese doctor and miracle healer Franz Anton Mesmer, and the work goes back to a French template: In "Le devin du village" with text and music by the philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau, the bickering shepherd couple Colette and Colin find help of the village soothsayer together again; a popular parody of the play even has the characters speak dialect. In the German version used by Mozart, there can no longer be any question of such realism and Mesmer's traits can also be identified in the "supposed magician" with his hocus-pocus gibberish Colas, but the thrust is the same: the idyllic shepherd's existence is celebrated, the city and their inhabitants are dismissed as artificial - and the lovers Bastien and Bastienne find each other again, despite all jealousy: Exactly such subjects delighted both at court and in the bourgeoisie at that time and certainly do so today. Especially when such a passionate young ensemble is at work as here, led by Heinz Ferlesch on the podium and the director duo Carolin Pienkos and Cornelius Obonya.
