Pietro Mascagni was born on 7 December 1863 in the very central Piazza delle Erbe (today Piazza Cavallotti) in Livorno : the Goldoni Foundation with the collaboration of the Mascagni Academy will commemorate this anniversary with the evening "Happy Birthday Mascagni " scheduled at the Teatro Goldoni on Wednesday 7 December, starting at 20, new appointment of the opera season .

Protagonists , under the careful guidance of a director established in Italy and abroad as Valerio Galli , recently applauded in Gounod 's Faust at the Detroit Opera House and awaited in Stuttgart and San Diego in Puccini's Tosca , will be Noemi Umani soprano , Mae Hayashi mezzo-soprano and Vladmir Reutov tenor ; Orchestra and choral laboratory of Goldoni, M° of the choir Maurizio Preziosi .

"We will listen to a beautiful and forgotten Mascagna page - says the musicologist Fulvio Venturi - like the fourth act of Parisina , born from Mascagni's love for Gabriele d'Annunzio's verses on the story of Ugo d'Este and Parisina Malatesta that the poet had already written for some years. In contact with the winged verses of D'Annunzio, Mascagni's inspiration flew very high and Parisinareceived the trappings of a masterpiece, but also a length which, after the Scala première on 14 December 1913, seemed excessive to the short-sighted Italian music critics of the time and which led the composer from Livorno to drastic cuts, including the entire act which will be proposed for the 'occasion".
