We are in France in 1725. Domenico Scarlatti is in Paris for the second time in his life, performing at Pierre Crozat's Hôtel particulier. Was Jean-Philippe Rameau, the new, albeit no longer very young, star among French keyboard artists, present? Most likely. Certainly some of the technical challenges and musical phrases in Scarlatti's sonatas and Rameau's harpsichord books are similar. The French ensemble Le Caravansérail, together with soprano Rachel Redmond, will stage possible encounters between Scarlatti and Rameau on the basis of a program of chamber cantatas and concertante ensemble music.
